Netherland Dwarfs

rabbit sitting in scale Netherland Dwarfs are among the smallest rabbits known. For show they can be no larger than 2 1/2 pounds but some pets can be as large as 3 1/2 pounds and some as small as 1 1/2 pounds.  That is one tiny rabbit! This picture is of one of my babies ready for a new home. Look how tiny she is. She weighs 1 1/4 pounds and is 12 weeks old.

Many Dwarfs are often not good children's rabbits due to their active nature and somewhat feisty temperament but we have a few that are very sweet.  Of the three does below, only Butterfly in the middle is safe for children to handle.

Netherland dwarfs come in a wide variety of colors. In shows the colors are broken down into groups. There are five groups. There are two groups present in the picture above. Sheba and her mom Neon are Himalayans, a color that is a member of the AOV group. In the middle, Butterfly is a REW or ruby eyed white. This color is a Self. Sheba is only 2 1/2 months old in this picture. Himalayans are born white and develop the dark "points" you see on Neon as they get older.

Our main concentration will be on otters and martins. Temperaments will be important to us because it is hard to tell anyone it is not safe to handle these bunnies.
